Michael Horace Jupe was born in December 1924 the son of Robert Horace Jupe and his wife Dorothy of Bath Road Sturminster Newton. Robert served with the Dorsetshire Regiment in the First World War but died relatively young in 1938 at the age of 50. Michael and his brother Robert, after attending Blandford Grammar School, went on to board at West Buckland School in North Devon. Michael gained the Cambridge Senior School Certificate in 1940 (North Devon Journal Sept 12 1940).
Michael joined the RAF just after Christmas 1942 and was serving with 616 (South Yorkshire) Squadron RAFVR as an AC2 at RAF Ibsley on the western edge of the New Forest in 1943. He was killed in what might today be called a workplace accident in the station paint store.
He was 18 years old.
Buried in Sturminster Newton Cemetery, he is remembered on both the memorial at The Blandford School and in St Mary’s Church Sturminster Newton.
